Andrusi's cover story is that he started reading It's Walky! at an unknown point in time, though it was prior to The Seventh Power. For some reason, he did not stop, and ended up reading Shortpacked!, which has since helped to color his perceptions of fandoms, as anyone who's ever talked to him about Sonic the Hedgehog can attest.

In reality, of course, Andrusi is part of the elite squad of U.S. government agents who control the false identity known as David Willis. As such, he has been a fan (so to speak) of Willis's work since his birth in 1978, which is really strange because Andrusi himself wasn't actually born until 1984. It is possible that he time-travelled for this.
