Story

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

This storyline has three interwoven, simultaneous subplots, a one-page cutscene, and a fourth subplot that is shown last; it is probably simultaneous with the other subplots. I will deal with the subplots separately below.

First subplot: USS Destiny

As the USS Destiny reaches the fringes of the Solar system, it is intercepted by the Martian armada. The Destiny is a very large spaceship, but it is dwarfed by the Martian mothership. It is clear that the Martians outpower the humans. The crew is brought before an unseen (but obviously tentacled) Martian commander, who expresses disgust at seeing humans steal Martian technology and not showing Martians the respect that Martians once showed for humans. For this, and for the destruction of the Martian community on earth, the commander punishes the Destiny's crew by turning them into zombies.

Second subplot: Squad 37

Squadron 37 are on a mission in the Bermuda Triangle. They are supposed to find Anti-Head Alien and take him to SEMME HQ. This simple mission is complicated immensely by Hooper turning fully into a green murderous zombie, having whispered for "brains" before [1] [2] (the transition takes place on the same page as when the Destiny crew are made into zombies [3]). He attacks Lith, but she slips away, sans signature hat with goggles. Hooper then kills Hooks, while Lith unsuccessfully tries to phone Professor Doc. Next one eaten is Max, despite his trying to argue that Hooper doesn't act like a true zombie. Running away, Lith finds Anti-Head Alien, busy being God to his ants. Lith picks him up against his protestations. Then, Fitz' severed head rolls into view, and Hooper attacks them.

Cutscene: Denver

Jason and Sal are on a roof-top. Sal is angsting about not being able to help Joyce in New York; Jason tries to make her feel less guilty.

Third subplot: New York

Joyce is in New York (with Walky in tow) to meet with Bart O'Ryan, who is about to prosecute her for murder. Joyce is quickly losing her temper, while O'Ryan remains composed. Sarah shows up; she's assisting O'Ryan with the case. Joyce feels betrayed by this, but Sarah reminds her that they were only roomies, never friends, and adds that she considers Joyce to be overprivileged and unworthy of her status as a SEMME agent.

Meanwhile, Walky has another dark vision of the future, but he is soon distracted by his own flatulence ([4]). He then tries to defend Joyce to O'Ryan and Sarah, claiming that she is a good, strong person and that she will soon save their lives ([5]). O'Ryan dismisses this as improbable and reveals that he has leaked information about Big Boss 2's history as a mental patient and Professor Doc's "disturbing experiments", and also how SEMME has been aiding and abetting Jason and Sal. As a result, SEMME has been officially shut down, and its responsibilities and powers have been transferred to the US military ([6]).

Walky and Joyce leave O'Ryan's offices, shocked and disoriented by the news. Joyce suddenly realizes that this means that they're free, that they don't have to fight the Martians, that they can live happily ever after. They agree to see this as an opportunity rather than a defeat.

Fourth subplot: Joe

At SEMME HQ, Joe is desperately searching for a computer that is still connected to the internet (as most computers have been disconnected at the disbanding of SEMME) and finds Alex, who naturally is still online. Joe pleads with him to let him log on and send a message, but Alex claims to be busy using it and won't let go of it even as Joe tries to pull it away from his hands. Robin shows up, inviting Joe to a good-bye party with Squadron 82, but Joe says he can't come because he needs to log on from a SEMME computer. Suddenly, Alex let's go of the computer: Robin has helped Joe by putting her tongue in Alex' ear.

While logging in, Joe explains to Robin how he needs to take this last chance to get in touch with his internet romance. Robin starts to realize that she did want Joe after all, and that she's about to lose him. She makes a crude pass at him, but Joe still chooses his internet girlfriend. Robin leaves, defeated and sad. Joe comes online and finds his girl online as well.
