The Power Booster Rod was created when Dargon Chesterfield wanted to escape his universe - and especially, The Cheese of his universe. Opening a portal into the Walkyverse, there needed to be a mass displacement equal to that of him and his troops back into his own universe to prevent heat death of it. The difference was teleported as energy (Energy = Mass × (Speed of light)². That's A LOT of energy) into a tree branch which happened to be lying in the London alley the portal was open in. It was sparkly. Instead of giving the branch to the Cheese of his universe, he instead took it with him, condemning his own universe to the aforementioned heat death.
History
After entering this universe, it was found the Power Booster Rod was not very powerful in the hands of humans. Needing a sacrificial lamb, JFO killed Linda Walkerton, then brainwashed her resurrected self into killing all the Martians with the PBR. The PBR eventually passed into the Head Alien's hands, and later to SEMME. Depending on the wielder's will, it can fire energy zaps, or cover a large area or more with yellow energy, which can be ignited as they please, destroying anything and everything within it. This area depends upon on the inherent power of the wielder - a human can ignite little more than a small room, whilst Sal Walters turned the entirety of North America yellow.
The Cheese can sense the use of the PBR, hinting that the energy manipulates the universe in a way he is sensitive to. It was used to this effect by Joyce Brown to call upon the Cheese twice, much to his displeasure. When inhabited by the soul of David, he was unable to use the Power Booster Rod to much effect, but when inhabited by Walky he was able to turn the Earth completely yellow[1] and make the Martian forces vanish. This hints that the usage of the Power Booster Rod is related to the Martian psychic ability and the properties of the soul.
It is still unknown why the branch was in the alley to begin with. Or why it was sparkly.
Trivia
- The PBR is named after an item of the same name that appeared in Marvel comics' Transformers, but the similarities end there.
- If you call the PBR a branch, it will get angry and violent[2].
