| End Date: December 5, 1997 |
The sixth storyline of Roomies!, "Obligatory Flashback Sequence" is mainly the character development of Danny and Joyce, and the story of how Danny met Sal, using flashback technique. Contains 17 black-and-white comics.
Synopsis
Joe is testing the strength of the dorm's bunks by wobbling them, while Danny is on the bottom bunk. The bunk falls on Danny, crushing his head and torso. Joyce almost goes crazy with the thought of not being able to seduce Danny, but quickly forgets when Joe asks her to give him CPR. Joyce cannot give Danny CPR, due to an attack of the giggles when she realizes she's kissing him.
Danny then goes into a flashback, his life flashing before his eyes. Starting with barfing on his father, and eating a frog, Daniel soon reaches his first encounter with Joe, who he asks to be his friend. Instead, Joe buries Danny in the sandbox, leaving him calling for help. The flashback fast-forwards to sixth grade, where Joe finds his interest in girls, leaving Danny alone. In high school, Joe tries to seduce Sal, and she stuffs him in a locker. In the next strip, Danny and Sal meet (and start to like each other), and Sal reveals her strong southern accent. Sal takes a liking to Danny after he helps her clean up some papers she drops, and Danny is left lovestruck.
The flashback ends, Danny comes to, and Sal calls. Joe warns Danny that she doesn't sound happy. Indeed, she isn't - Sal is moving away and breaking up with Danny. Danny is heartbroken, and Joe's "talk" only hurts him more. Joyce goes to talk with him, and opens up the fact that they're both available now. In typical Joyce fashion, she starts naming their future children. Danny goes and talks to Alex, who offers his usual non-advice. The storyline ends with Danny criticizing Alex for never leaving the computer, and Alex criticizing Danny for not being accepting of other people's lifestyles, which he, of course, doesn't really mean.
Notes
- The "present day" Sal segment would later be revisited from her perspective, showing the reasons for her call, in the storyline And It Will Go Well With Thee.
