John Walters is the father of Beef Walkerton and adoptive father of Sal Walters. Unknowingly having his children switched, he gained the unwelcome attention of the Head Alien. With the protection of SEMME and the Man in Black, they escaped him during several moves from town to town, changing his name to "Bob" in the process in an attempt to throw them off the scene. This greatly aggravated relations with his adopted daughter. He was killed by the Head Alien during one such move.

His body was later used as a bargaining chip by the Head Alien in order to get Sal to open the Martian Embassy, a move which failed because he was actually confronting Walky in an improvised wig. Switching plans, however, Head Alien attempted to force Walky to do it, but instead aggravated him to the extent that he crashed the tubes containing John and Martha's bodies on Head Alien, killing him and - inadvertently - Big Boss and causing Sal to shut down with remorse at seeing their dead bodies.

They were later buried properly, and Sal would visit their graves after recovering from a period of insanity.
